Form Orders

The Form Orders are a long-established tradition at King's College, and are the main means by which parents, students and tutors are able to monitor student progress. Term Orders are published at the end of each term and Exam Orders are published after each internal exam session. For students in Years 11-13 there are exams at the end of Term 3, while students in Years 9 and 10 have examinations in Terms 2 and 4.

The Term Orders are usually based on a variety of assessment activities conducted throughout the term (tests, projects, practicals, book marks, etc.). A single grade is generated from these results to indicate a student's general level of performance during that term.

NCEA classes

Students in NCEA classes are awarded a grade from the following scale:

  • E1 Excellent standard in all work
  • E2 Excellent standard in most work.
  • M3 Generally Merit standard but some Excellent.
  • M4 Averaging Merit standard in most work.
  • M5 Generally Merit standard but some Achieved.
  • A6 Generally Achieved standard but some Merit.
  • A7 Averaging Achieved standard in most work.
  • A8 Generally Achieved standard but some Not Achieved.
  • N9 Not Achieved standard in most work
  • N10 Not Achieved standard in all work.

CIE Classes and Y9/10 Classes

Students in the Lower School and in CIE classes are given a scaled Order Grade which indicates a student's level of performance relative to all secondary school students of the same age in New Zealand. For example, an Order Grade of 50 to 55 in Y11 Maths would indicate that the student's performance that term was average when compared to how other New Zealand 15 year-olds perform. An Order Grade of 65 or more puts a student in the top 25%, and so on.
