Prime Minister invites the School Community to support the Chapel Close project

On Friday 26th February, 180 members of the King’s College community attended a fundraising luncheon at the Northern Club organised by the College and WarnerWilder.com with special guest speaker Prime Minister, Hon. John Key. The funds raised from the luncheon will go to the WarnerWilder.com appeal for the Chapel Close project.  MC for the event was Charlie Haddrell (School, 1986-89), Rev Warner Wilder spoke about the need for the Chapel Close and that the project reflects the continuing growth in the Chaplaincy at King’s, especially with our Community Service and Voyager Programmes At the same time Warner reiterated that the Memorial Chapel remains very much the heart of the College and that we are very much blessed to have a Chapel of such breathtaking magnificence.

The Prime Minister, who is also a current parent, congratulated Warner on receiving his Queen Service Medal and how well-deserved the honour was to acknowledge the contribution he has made to the Community. The Prime Minister discussed the importance of philanthropy and giving back to the College and asked all members of the King’s community to support Warner and the Chapel Close project in order to continue the fine work of the Chaplaincy at King’s.

MIND, BODY and SOUL - The King's Trilogy

The Mind, Body and Soul Fundraising Capital Campaign is the start of a new era at King's College. It embodies the strategic planning process of the College and illustrates its future direction.

The on-going strategic plan will incorporate the fundraising and building of two exciting new buildings; the Design Technology Centre and the Chapel Close. With the Campaign Chairman, Jim McLay, guiding us through this ambitious project, together with Tim Kay, the Director of Development, there is no doubt that the Mind, Body and Soul Fundraising Capital Campaign for current and future King's College students will help us to remain at the forefront of education in New Zealand and beyond.

The state of the art Design Technology Centre will allow students of all abilities to thrive in a practical, problem-solving learning environment. The building will contain materials technology, electronic and systems design components and will prepare students with 21st century employment skills.

The Chapel Close will provide a reflection space or oratory, Chaplain's office, storeroom, choir facilities and a religious education classroom. The building reflects the current needs of the Chaplain and his community service programme, which has outgrown the office area of the current chapel. To be built on the lawn area currently at the back of the chapel, some lawn space will be preserved and cloisters will provide covered access from the new buildings to the Chapel.

The Mind, Body and Soul Fundraising Capital Campaign is the largest fundraising campaign that has been undertaken by the College in its history, and not since the Centenary back in 1996 has the entire School Community put its support behind such a project.
