Badminton

On Friday, the King’s 1A badminton team lost 4-2 to Auckland Grammar Number 1 with Raymond Ke winning his singles and Selwyn Loekman and Mark Chiang winning their doubles for King’s.

Basketball

The Boy’s First Basketball Team had its best win this season when they defeated Elim Christian College 69-24. Eddie Reeves dominated the backboard offensively and defensively with some great work by Nick Owen at point guard feeding the big men at base.
This Thursday, Waiuku College at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Brewster Centre.

Clay Target Shooting

On Thursday, the King’s shooting team competed at the Matamata shoot where over 150 shooters took part.
In the single rise event captain of shooting, Rupert Schoeller shot the perfect 20/20 and James Reed 19/20 and these two shooters followed this with 55/60 and 54/60 in the points score event. Fellow First Team shooter, McCormick Phillips also shot well, shooting 9/10 in the single rise and 51/60 in the points score. New shooter, Sam Clark recorded a personal best when he shot 9/10 in the single barrel and 53/60 in the points score. Matt Gibbs in his first competition recorded a promising 17/20 in the single rise and 44/60 in the points score. The team now looks forward to the North Island Championships on Friday 2nd July.

Cross Country

On a very testing hilly National Cross Country circuit at Waikanae Beach, King’s best performance came from first year senior, Ben Moynihan when he finished 25th out of the 250-plus starters in the crawling 6km event. However, Ben was the third of the first year seniors home and with 2 more years in the grade he will have gained much experience from this high level competition against much older boys.

Football

On Wednesday afternoon, the Girls Football Team suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 to Michael Park School.

On Saturday, the First XI lost 2-0 to Westlake Boys at home in a match where the team showed a lack of discipline receiving 2 red cards and 6 yellow cards and as a result the King’s team finished the match with only 9 players.

The Senior Reserve XI played out a 1-1 draw with the Westlake Reserve XI and Sam Klippel scored the King’s goal
15B continued its run of form when they defeated St Kentigern College 2-1 with the King’s goals from Campbell Herbert and Kyeong-Jun Kim.

13A played their second game of the championship round and are still without a win after drawing with St Peter's 1-1. In a fast entertaining game, St Peter's took the lead midway through the first half with an excellent strike from a corner. King's equalised early in the second half through a well-taken penalty to Oscar Harris. The draw was a fair result.

13B defeated Rutherford College 2-0 with the King’s goals coming from Elliot Lewington and Sam Mitchell.



Hockey

The Boys Hockey First XI won its sixth successive game with a controlled and effective 6-1 defeat of Macleans College at home on Wednesday with two goals apiece from Michael Ritchie and Ben Horne and one each for Cameron Mackie and Alex Hannon.
 The team, who welcomed back midfielder Kim Kingstone from injury, opened the scoring in only the second minute with a superb team goal. Ben Andrews' astute cross-field pass found Cameron Mackie, who sent an excellent ball through to striker Michael Ritchie to deflect high into the net. Five minutes later, Ben Horne stepped up at a the team's first penalty corner to rifle home an unstoppable shot and claim King's second goal of the game and notch up the team's hundredth goal of the season in only its fourteenth game. Cameron Mackie made it 3-0 with an opportunistic reverse stick shot two minutes before the interval.
In the second half, Macleans reduced the deficit at a penalty corner but further goals from Ritchie, Horne and a sixth goal from Alex Hannon, who finished off excellent approach play from Nick Sissons, sealed a comprehensive victory. Players of the day were Chad Whitehead, Nick Sissons and Jared Panchia.
 This Wednesday at 6.00pm King’s will host Auckland Grammar in the final to decide who will win the Auckland Secondary Schools Championship. The team would welcome as much support as possible.

Also last Wednesday the King’s 2nd XI played Botany Downs College and after a slow start King’s went 1-0 down but this sparked the team into action and by half time King’s led 3-1. In the second half king’s scored 3 more goals and conceded one for final score line of 6-2. The  King’s goals were scored by James Patterson, Tom Prebble and Matt Weston with 2 each.

The Girls First XI lost to national champions, Diocesan School 1st XI, 6-1 after being down 3-1 at the break. Our girls fought hard but found the skill of the Diocesan team difficult to match. The King’s goal came from a penalty corner combination where Charlotte Bigelow’s corner was well deflected into the goal by Jacqui Cole. Francesca March had a strong game for King’s on attack.

The boys Under-15A team had an excellent 6-0 victory over Auckland Grammar School with well structured passing opening up the Grammar defence to score 4 first half goals. Scott Johnston top scored with three goals, Henry Ferrier scored two and one to Angus McKenzie.

The Under-15B team also defeated Auckland Grammar B team1-0 in a much tighter game, where King’s dominated but lacked the ability to finish. Campbell Monteith scored the King’s goal.

The Under-15C team found a depleted Macleans team no competition when our boys scored a massive 20 goals to win in style. This team coached by Mr Stead and Adam Fleming is so far undefeated for the season.

Karting

In recent karting action, Arie Hutton has been unbeaten and has won the WPKA Championships in his Yamaha Kart and last weekend won the Mt Wellington Club Championships in his KF3 kart.

Netball

King’s 2 has proven to be the College's top-performing netball team this season and extended their winning streak to 6 games to remain undefeated when they beat the Howick College 1st team 18-17. The game was fiercely contested with close marking throughout. Player of the day went to Kristina White.

King’s 3 played St Mary’s 2 and in a hard fought game where our girls were well down inn the first 3 quarters our team fought back strongly eventually going down by one point with a final score of 25-24 to St Mary’s. Player of the day was Georgia Woodbridge.

King’s 5 had an excellent game with St Kentigern College 10 and in their best game of the season won convincingly 26-4.

Rugby

On Saturday the First XV played Sacred Heart College for the Fitzpatrick/ Kirkpatrick trophy in their second televised game of the season and won an exciting encounter 27-20.  Sacred Heart started well and led with a penalty, but thanks to two converted tries to Fa’asiu Fuata’i, King’s led 14-3 at half time. Sacred Heart then opened the second half scoring with another penalty before Simon Healy scored to stretch the margin to 21-6.

Sacred Heart responded with a converted try to their hooker before Simon Hickey landed two penalties to extend the score to 27-13 and with only a few minutes to go the Sacred Heart captain scored a try that was converted for a final score of 27-20. For King's, Andrew Jones, Tom Urry and Jordan Lay were outstanding in the forwards and in the backs William McKay and Simon Hickey showed sound decision-making.

Fa’asiu Fuata’i had a strong running game at centre and the back three of Ngatua Hukatai, Carlos Bacham and Simon Healycombined the best they have for the season. This result means that King's remain strongly in 3rd place in the competition and with only three difficult games remaining are well placed to make the semi-finals.

Asics Man-of-the-match was Tom Urry.


The 2nd XV continued to be strong championship contenders when they defeated De-La-Salle College 9-5 in a game remembered for some unpleasant incidents late in the game. The King’s Team to their credit fought hard to come back from 5-3 down with Matt Galloway landing three important penalties. Kamoe Erasito, Jordan Karpik and Lucas Duley can hold their heads high for strong honest games, Ben Reeves and Jacob Mills also worked hard and Matt Galloway’s kicking proved the difference between the teams.

The Colts team lost their game with Tangaroa College 10 – 7 with Nick Ropati scoring and Brad Davis converting.

The Under-15 team showed outstanding spirit in the face of an aggressive Sacred Heart crowd to win 13-10 on Saturday. Tries were scored by Chad Crossley and Teariki Ben-Nicholas and a goal kick from Dylan Gallaher secured the win but the maturity and tenacity shown by every member of the squad was exemplary. Player of the day was Mitchell Karpik.

4A went down 12-0 to Sacred Hearts College after being down 12-0 at the break but an improved 2nd half saw the King’s team compete better at set pieces but unable to score points.

4B lost to Glendowie College 31-24 with the King’s points coming from 
Sam Ash with 2 tries and 2 conversions and a try each to Chris Cunningham and Max Hunt. Forwards Max Hunt, James Parker, Jozef Wright had strong games.


5A played at Glendowie College and won 13-6. After defending well against a strong headwind, the team went into the second half leading 8-6 and sealed the victory with a try in the final minutes.

6A fought out a 19-19 draw with Auckland Grammar School. With the King’s points coming from tries to Rupert Schoeller and Tom Donnelly with two each and conversions to Kurt Barker.

6B played Green Bay High School who played with the wind behind them in the first half and led 5-0 at the break and then stretched this to 8-0 shortly after half time. However the King’s forwards worked hard to create a good platform for the backs to run in two tries and a 10-8 victory to King’s with Tom Clark outstanding in the line outs for a man-of-the-match performance .

7A was soundly beaten by top of the table Auckland Grammar School, 70-5.


7B defeated the Auckland Grammar 7C, 33-28, with a last minute try to Luca Marchant.
